The very first memory I actually have of ping pong was in the park during hot summer recreation days in California when our city had a program where kids from the town would play caroms, get involved with arts and crafts. In addition, one of the more popular activities was ping pong. I remember that for paddles that they had these terrible sand paper monstrosities which could hardly keep the ball inside the same zip code even if slightly over hit. This prospect of playing a sport where I had zero control over the ball was hardly motivating to me. Not long after my initial summary of the sport, someone brought in some bestpingpongco which had actual rubber on either side of the paddle that has been a huge improvement regarding having the ball in check. Although these entry level paddles were a couple of dollars each, I came across myself keeping the ball much even closer the table when hit.
Let’s fast forward a decade. I hadn’t played the overall game much and certainly didn’t put much thought into possible advancements in technologies with table tennis paddles. I saw there was actually a paddle who had little rubber bumps on one site (also referred to as pips) after which smooth rubber on the other. The rubber was much tackier that which i had used previously. This “tack” seemingly gave me more control across the ball because I really could spin the ball and control the shots which were hit at me with greater ease. With greater control came greater confidence. I could attack and defend more quickly than I ever could. Maybe the real difference was that my previous knowledge of the game was lousy. These paddles with pips out plus a smooth surface using one side were so much bestpingp0ngco which i gained more confidence than my opponents using the same equipment. Not long after I began spending a little while with better equipment my game improve to the stage that my competition became defenseless. My skills and confidence had even developed to the level i could defeat competitors with my off hand.
Skip forward a couple of more years and i also again gained regular usage of a ping pong table. This time around I had gotten the chance to borrow a paddle of the co-worker and it also had been a pre-assembled Chinese import which had a retail value of 30.00. I felt immediately as though I was playing another sport. My chops had more bite and my loops took my opposition further from the table thus i could easily close out points. To this day, I was amazed with all the vast improvement in the grade of ping pong paddle by only investing incrementally more during my equipment. It can make perfect sense to pay the amount of money on the paddle how the professionals do. In the game of table tennis, obtaining the right ping pong paddles and ping pong rubbers makes a huge difference in which you stand in the win / loss column. To answer the question posed in the title with this writing, yes. It matters.
